Grandma Moses Again

Second graders finished their Grandma Moses landscapes this week with snowy pine trees.

Below are some finished paintings.

They did a great job drawing dimensional houses, showing distance and drawing skaters on their pond.

Grandma Moses

Second graders learned about the folk artist Grandma Moses. They created a landscape and learned how to draw a dimensional house, show distance, create cast shadows and make silhouette figures.

They start by practicing how to draw a dimensional house on an Art Skill Sheet.

They use colored pencils to color in their buildings...

and blue chalk pastel to define the hills and create cast shadows.

Watercolor paint completes the sky along the horizon line.
Stop by next week to see how they finish off their work.

Big Fish

First graders painted big fish. First they practiced drawing their fish on a dry erase board.

Then they used black crayon to draw a big fish and tempera paint to fill in with color.

Finally they used black paint and a fine brush to outline their work.

Mr. Harrington, the first grade teacher joined his class in art today for a fun surprise for his students.

He painted a fine big fish!

Hello...

...and Happy New Year! The holidays and the arctic vortex got in my way so it's been a long time since I've written a post.  Let me catch you up with what's been going on in the art room.

Second graders started the year with a Crazy Hat Snowman.

They worked on expression

and practiced their watercolor skills.

Colorful!
