Printing

Second graders learned how to make prints in art this week.

They started with a burnishing tool and printing foam. They used the tool to draw a design into the foam which became their printing plate. The same thing can be done using the foam from a meat tray - washed well with the rim trimmed off  - and a dull pencil.

Next they gathered colored paper, a magazine for a clean working surface and a carrying tray for the finished prints.

We used a tray for the printing ink and a brayer to roll the ink onto the printing plate.

Each student made 3 prints and had to manage a clean surface, good ink distribution and efficient clean up because that black ink was messy!

Here are some finished prints on the carrying tray. We will trim, mount and add color for our final product.
