Sunflowers
First graders learned about Vincent VanGogh and painted a beautiful vase of sunflowers. They mixed the paint on their paper by dipping their brush into 2 colors of paint and added white paint as a final accent.

Starry Night Again
Thank you Hunter's dad for the wonderful print of Starry Night. One of them is in the hall and one of them is in the art room. It's noticed by everyone and has sparked discussion and inspiration. It's beautiful and I thank you. Below are some student Starry Nights to view and enjoy!

Watercolor Town
First graders drew a tall town with lots of doors and windows.
They started with a pencil and then switched to a black crayon to outline their town. The waxy black crayon keeps the paint contained in the small spaces and gives definition to the final painting.
They used small brushes to paint in the small shapes and larger brushed to fill in the background. We used tempera tray paint (purchased with funds from LEHSO - thank you) that is activated with water and is semi transparent so easier to control than the liquid tempera paint.
The final paintings are as unique as each artist.

Art in the District Board Room
The art teachers in Lisle take turns hanging art work in the district board room during the year. Tate Woods starts the year out in September with Bad Kitty art and Lisle Lion art created by second grade, and first day portraits created by first grade. I've also started to hang art in the halls and LRC of Tate Woods and it's starting to look colorful around here!
