Lots of Lines

First graders met Mr. Dot. He's a friendly guy who lives in the art room and moves around from place to place each week.  He's also pretty good at teaching first graders how to make many kinds of lines.

Mr. Dot went for a walk on his paper zig zagging, jumping and skipping. As he walked along he showed students how to make lots of different kinds of lines. They used sharpies to draw their lines and used paint to complete their work.

Hundreds of Smiles

We began the school year at Tate Woods with the book "A Girl with a Cape" written by Amy Logan. It's a book about kindness and how we all can make someone else's day better by using kind words.

Students at Tate Woods created a smiling monochromatic selfie (now that's a big art word!) creating a wall with hundreds of smiles to greet our visitors.

Students learned how to draw a portrait.

They used a small format - 4"x4".

They colored in one color.

And our selfies are displayed in color wheel order - red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple.

Everyone in the building had an opportunity to create a portrait.

And the smiles help to remind us to be kind to everyone.

Hundreds of Smiles
(and there's room to add more because you can never have too many smiles)
