Back to School!

Welcome back to school!
Hope you had a great summer and you're ready for many art adventures in the colorful art room.

Here's the art room. The table colors are set up like a rainbow - red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet and each wall is painted a different color.
This year the art room has a new Smartboard and Document Camera to help with student learning.

Visit thecolorfulartroom.blogspot.com frequently to see what we do in art class!

ColorCycle

Speaking of having lots of dried up markers...Crayola  has a recycling program to turn old markers into energy called ColorCycle. The art room at Tate Woods will take any dried up markers you have plus art room markers, count them, box them up and FedEx will return them to Crayola for recycling. Go to www.crayola.com/ColorCycle.aspx to read more about it.

Speaking of recycling - before you toss out pencils, old crayons, paper or other supplies, think of the art room - we can probably use them to create!

Liquid Watercolors

The art room goes through MANY markers in a school year. After much use, they dry up.
Here's a way to squeeze a little more out of your collection of dried up markers. Liquid watercolor.

Sort your markers into general color families, use the lids for those cute marker cap critters
(see my posts from May 22nd and 24th) and soak the tips in water for a day or two.
The results are an intense liquid watercolor.

Beautiful!

Marker Cap Critters

I have a million dried up markers in the art room. Seems wasteful to just throw them away
so I collected the lids and look what the second graders made using paper, glue and
pipe cleaners - little finger puppets. How cute are these!

It's a Bugs Life

Second graders used Model Magic to create dimensional bugs.
First they learned how to draw large blades of grass to look like one is in front and one is behind.

Then they used the colored clay to make their bugs.

They had fun mixing colors and creating a fanciful bug world.
