Dry Erase Boards

Students finish their art lesson at different rates so when a student has a little time left
at the end of class, they can draw on our homemade dry erase board.

Each table has a pencil case with an eraser, dry erase markers, small papers and circle templates.
I took the plastic coated pages out of an old photo album, trimmed off the 3 hole punch and students use these for individual dry erase boards. The best part is when the pages get worn out, just recycle them and replace with a new page. Goodwill and the Salvation Army are great places
to find old photo albums.

Macaws!

Look at these beautiful birds! Second graders drew their macaws with chalk
looking at pictures for inspiration. Rich tempera paint completed their work.

Hiding in the Rain Forest

After the first graders painted their water color sky and lush rain forest plants and flowers,
they created a cute paper chimp hiding in the rain forest. Adorable!

Painting the Rain Forest

Did you notice that we're making lots of rain forest art?
Tate Woods school has a rain forest inspired learning fair in April
so we're following that theme in the art room.
First graders apply liquid water color wash for a colorful sky.

When dry, they painted plants and flowers with tempera paint.

We have our colored paint in containers provided by our science teacher - thanks Sue!
She saves Beneful dog food containers that have colored lids so we can find our paint colors easily.
The containers are the perfect size for paint and very useful for holding many other things.

Painted Paper Leaves

We used our painted papers to make large rain forest leaves.
Oil pastel added texture and each student cut out a different and interesting leaf.

Painted Paper

We made painted paper to be used in collages.

Second graders start by dipping their brushes into more than one color of paint
blending and filling their paper with color.

Some students used a scraper to scrape interesting lines and textures in their paint.

Some students chose to add texture and color with a brush.

Final papers ready to be cut up and made into wonderful art!

Heart Prints

Second graders used white printing ink and a brayer to print a heart design on colored paper.
They were required to print at least 3 prints and when dry, they colored with markers, cut them out
and mounted them on a frame.
