Fall Trees

Second graders are learning about foreground, mid ground and background.

They started to create their background with a chalk drawing of a tree. They used multiple colors of chalk pastel for the sky and ground and used a tissue to blend them together.

Next they painted their tree adding many branches at the top.
We talked about the 3 parts of a tree - the trunk, the roots and the branches.

The leaves were created using a small sponge clipped to a clothes pin.

They dabbed paint on the branches being careful not to cover too many of them.
The paintings will dry until next week when they will add cut paper details for the mid ground and foreground.
