Watercolor Town

First graders drew a tall town with lots of doors and windows.

They started with a pencil and then switched to a black crayon to outline their town. The waxy black crayon keeps the paint contained in the small spaces and gives definition to the final painting.

They used small brushes to paint in the small shapes and larger brushed to fill in the background. We used tempera tray paint (purchased with funds from LEHSO - thank you) that is activated with water and is semi transparent so easier to control than the liquid tempera paint.

The final paintings are as unique as each artist.
